A diamond certificate or a diamond grading report is a report created by a certified gemologist that contains detailed information about the diamond's dimensions, carat weight, color, cut, clarity, symmetry, finish, and other characteristics. Toxsur carries loose diamonds and jewelry items with center stones that have been graded by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America).
Please note that most loose diamonds sold by Toxsur come with a free GIA diamond grading report. Only engagement rings and any other items containing GIA-certified center diamonds (which is specifically stated in the item's description) will come with a free GIA grading report.
An appraisal is a document prepared and signed by a gemology expert and contains information on a particular jewelry item, including the approximate retail replacement value, an accurate description of the appraised item, total carat weight and color/clarity grading. Appraisal certificates are usually necessary for insurance purposes. Appraisal certificates are available for all items at a nominal charge of $50 by special request. These appraisals are not done by Toxsur directly, but are third-party appraisal certificates prepared by gemology experts.
Diamonds are naturally resistant to damage by heat or scratching, only a strong hit to the girdle can cause a diamond to chip. Exposure to perspiration and household chemicals can cause diamonds to accumulate buildup that causes dullness. Periodic cleanings to ensure the diamond's brilliance are suggested. A solution of one part ammonia and six parts water can be used to clean diamond jewelry; however, we do suggest that you get your diamond jewelry items professionally cleaned and checked for the setting's security.
To prevent your diamonds and diamond jewelry from scratching or dulling other jewelry, we recommend that all items are stored in soft fabric pouches or in a fabric-lined case with dividers.
